On September 10, the 68th Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA) opened grandly. Known widely as “the Olympic Games in Automotive Industry”, Frankfurt Auto Show is an important trend setter in global automotive industry. The show of this year witnesses presence of Beijing Hainachuan Automotive Parts Co., Ltd. (hereinafter abbreviated as “BHAP”) with its latest products and technical outcomes. Starting from the concepts of sharing, mutual benefit, and co-creation, BHAP looks forward to cooperative development with OEMs and part manufacturers from around the world, and expects to build with them an international industrial resource sharing platform for vehicles and parts.
Demonstration of global development outcomes with new products and new technologies
Incorporated in 2008 and headquartered in Beijing, China, BHAP is an international group dealing with automotive part business. It ranks No. 61 in the list of 2019 global top 100 automotive part manufacturers published recently by Automotive News, an authoritative USA automotive journal, with the second highest ranking among all Chinese enterprises. During this show, BHAP made an intensive demonstration of its new products and technologies based on the concepts of lightweightness, electrification, and intelligence as well as the most recent outcomes of its global business development.
During this show, many representative products developed by BHAP for Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Magna, and other customers made their debut, including rear aluminum alloy shock tower, DCT300 clutch transmission housing, hybrid power battery tray, aluminum alloy A-pillar, spoiler mounting support made of cast aluminum, PA-CF sunroof frame, and aluminum alloy wheel hub. By concentrating on three types of technology, i.e. plastics in place of steel, light cast aluminum, and thermal forming of high-strength steel, BHAP has obtained certain first-mover advantages and a series of encouraging outcomes in the domain of lightweightness. In 2018, BHAP acquired 75% equity in Trimet Automotive Holding GmbH, a famous German enterprise specializing in aluminum alloy automotive parts. This acquisition was followed by accelerated localization of core technology R&D capabilities and integration of markets, resources, and channels. The combined outputs of these endeavors are prominent so far - new breakthroughs have been made in China and global markets.
As for electrification and intelligence technologies, BHAP has made targeted deployments from multiple dimensions of technical innovation, new product development, production capacity building, and market support. The wheel hub engine displayed during this exhibition was jointly developed by Trimet and a well-known European academy. Weighing less than 20 kilograms, it provides a power of 40 kW and a torque as high as 300 Nm, and boasts the advantages of lightness, low cost, and high efficiency. The 7000-series aluminum alloy battery tray enables application of aviation-grade “7000-series aluminum” in the boxes under battery packs. It helps boost the energy storage capacity of a Grade B battery electric car by 50% approximately without any volume or weight compromise. The inverter integrated electric compressor features a strong cooling capacity, lower noise, and low power consumption, while helping effectively improve electric vehicles’ mileage and rider comfort. The spiral bevel gear provides better NVH performance and more controllable noise, and is therefore more aligned with the requirements raised for battery electric cars……During this exhibition, BHAP showcased an independently developed multi-sensor fusion system. Thanks to neural network algorithms adopted by this system, the data collected by cameras and laser radars may be synthesized and analyzed, and rapid and accurate identification of an object, distance, or movement is also possible.
Inalfa Roof Systems Group B.V., an affiliate of BHAP and the world’s second largest automobile roof manufacturer, is highly recognized and acclaimed by OEMs worldwide due to their outstanding large roof products. During this auto show, Inalfa showcased the BLTS roof that was developed concurrently with Benz GLE and BMW X5 models.
The high-performance pistons were among the most popular exhibits and attracted large numbers of professionals on the scene. The developer and producer of this product series is Bohai Piston, a BHAP affiliate. As the largest piston manufacturer across Asia, it has been providing top-quality supporting services for high-end customers from around the world, including Cummins, Caterpillar, Volkswagen, GE, Fiat, and Kohler.
Construction of a mutually beneficial platform based on new concepts and a future-oriented strategy
The new wave of global technical and industrial revolutions is gradually reshaping competition patterns among automotive part manufacturers, from those dominated by technologies and products to those driven by resource integration and utilization capabilities. In this context, BHAP has learned to think in a prospective and innovative way, and brought forward a development strategy mandating accelerated “four major transformations” in terms of products, markets, partners, and talents and teams. Strong momentums will be created for new high-quality development through expedited construction of a platform for global resource integration and sharing, and collaboration with partners from around the world will be critical during this process. For product transformation, BHAP will speed up the transition from traditional products to those with high added value and benefiting from latest technological advancements. Product transformation and layout will focus on the fields of lightweight products, new energy, and intelligent networking, aiming to continuously build on our capabilities in industrial chain resource integration and sharing, and to improve our product system upgrading and supporting functions. For market transformation, while serving BAIC and Chinese OEM customers, BHAP will work closely with domestic and foreign partners to vigorously expand global market. For partner transformation, BHAP will initiate deeper capital and channel cooperation with domestic and foreign partners, thereby continuing to expand its global “friend circle”. For talent and team transformation, BHAP will facilitate cultivation of young, specialized, and professional talents from different countries, and boost talent exchanges and cooperation with partners.
With over 40 Chinese subsidiaries, 19 factories distributed in other countries and regions around the world, and a network covering R&D centers in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific, BHAP provides OEMs worldwide with a diverse range of integrated products and top-grade services, and overseas business already accounts for 15% of its total sales volume. By taking the opportunity offered by this exhibition, BHAP made in-depth communications and exchanges with vehicle part manufacturers and OEM customers from around the world.
Riding the wave of China’s opening, BHAP will seek further globalization through concrete steps such as integration of resources from different parts of the world and construction of a shared development platform. The company will quicken its pace towards accomplishing RMB 100 billion operating income and other targets set forth in “the plan for the fourteenth five-year period”. Bearing these development targets in mind, BHAP will maintain a global prospective and a strategic posture. Specifically, practical moves will be made in the fields of technical cooperation, joint venture, and equity cooperation, in order to realize reinforced communication, cooperation, synergies, and resource sharing with vehicle component partners from different countries, and to build a global ecology of cooperation more quickly. Cai Suping, Vice Present of BAIC and Chairman of the board of BHAP pointed that “BHAP will never cease to improve its capabilities in independent innovation, market exploration, and resource integration. Construction of the vehicle and part enterprise resource sharing platform will enable us to realize innovative cooperation patterns and propel win-win development.”
Almost certainly, we will embrace a new wave of technical and industrial revolutions. That’s why reconstructions of industrial ecologies and competition patterns are picking up speed in automotive industry. The future will undoubtedly be dominated by enterprises with a secure footing at the forefront of technical innovation and globalization. In view of this, BHAP will continue to build core corporate capabilities, and meanwhile speed up transformations, upgrading, and globalization. Top-class products and technologies will be developed to “contribute to quality of each car and create fantastic driving experiences for users”. With a vision of becoming “a globally influential supplier of systematic solutions to core automotive parts”, we will join hands with OEMs and partners worldwide to create a glorious future of high-quality development.
